P<\/span>oet, novelist, essayist, <\/span>playwright and <\/span>storyteller<\/span> is an Earth activist <\/span>with over 20 published books and a multitude of essays, articles, poems, and stories<\/span>.<\/span> S<\/span>he has tried to be faithful to the calling of <\/span>healer and medicine woman <\/span>and has<\/span> taught and counseled for over fifty years<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She has published more than 20 books including The Story That Must Not Be Told<\/em>, novels<\/span><\/span>, La Vieja: A Journal of Fire<\/em>, A Rain of Night Birds<\/em>, La Negra y Blanca<\/em><\/span><\/span>, winner Oakland PEN Josephine Miles Literary Award, <\/span>non fiction<\/span>, <\/span><\/span>Entering the Ghost River: Meditations on the Theory and Practice of Healing<\/span><\/span><\/em> and <\/span><\/span>Tree: Essays<\/span> and Pieces<\/span><\/span><\/em>, and poetry, <\/span><\/span>Ruin and Beauty, New and Selected Poems<\/span><\/span><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Her play,\u00a0<\/span>Dreams Against the State<\/i>,<\/span>\u00a0received many different productions in a variety of venues.\u00a0Writing For Your Life: A Guide and Companion to the Inner Worlds<\/i>, her classic book on writing is still in print since 1992!\u00a0<\/span> As a healer she has introduced <\/span>ReVisioning<\/span> Medicine, 19 Ways (for a Viable Future for All Beings) Literature of Restoration and Healing Stories which creatively address life threatening diseases, spiritual and emotional crises, as well as community, political and environmental disintegration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Deena lives at the end of the road at the edge of a wild park with Mountain Lion, Coyote, Raven, Owl and others as companions. There she holds Dar\u00e9, the gathering of the community on behalf of healing.<\/span>
